Felicity Clarke - Postcards from the Soul
A horticulturist by education, an artist by inspiration and an astrologer by curiosity. I have always had a garden of my own… or at least since I was four. I learned to carefully watch my garden.
My dad showed me Orion’s belt in the skies of the Southern Hemisphere and to this day I am wanderlust for stars of my youth that twinkled so clearly and brightly. They still are amazing in my imagination.
In the garden, my grandmother promised I would see the fairies if I sat still enough and for long enough. I didn’t see the fairies, but it did start the journey of being still, observant and noticing change over time; quite a skill for both the gardener and the astrologer.
My mom was infinitely more practical when she gave me a shovel, a pile of plants and a small garden plot. I quickly learned how to dig really well. Fast forward to my time at Clemson University and to my vegetable class where the professor handed out a sheet of paper a minute before the bell on the last day of class and said something self-deprecating about most of his peers thinking he was crazy, but he was going to give us this sheet anyway. I looked at it in bewilderment: it was how to plant by the moon. Now having sat through quite a few lectures of a very clearly competent and well-knowledged individual, and being introduced to a completely novel concept at the 11th hour, I stared at the sheet. I wondered how that worked and thought about it, but it was a squirrelly worm in the back of my head for a long while. That little worm sat in the back of my brain for about a decade. At my first Saturn return (28ish), I started a landscape company. Here, I got to indulge the artist by designing frisky and joyful annual flower designs. I built a team, learned how to talk to clients, inspired people to work together and watched. I observed the process of plants and people growing and how they mix and breathe into one complex system. The pretty colors brought joy and emotional healing, but I always had the nudge that there was another adventure to come.
Eventually the struggles of founding and growing a company to 20 plus employees, over two decades had gifted me with some profound psychological insights. Like planting flowers with love helps them grow better, if you plant beautiful gardens that match the rhythm of the person they feel better. In the middle of that journey, I could only wonder: why did some flower beds flourish and others, for no discernible reason, did not sparkle as brightly. Was there something to that sheet on how to plant by the moon? Why did some people like these flowers and why did some staff members click and make great teams and others failed? Increasingly, I became obsessed with astrology to answer the questions that defied my ordinary detective work. I continued to work with plants until it was clear that all I wanted to do was study astrology. I had graduated from the proverbial psychology boot camp.
Inspired by both Evolutionary and Galactic Astrology and the thirst of the soul to know why. To answer the deep questions of why the soul is here and what does it want to learn, experience and achieve in this lifetime. There are clues to these questions everywhere and countless modalities to explore these through. My chosen canvas is through earth and sky, and when woven together in a bigger tapestry, they are brilliant at helping us unfold and understand our own magic and our own why. Each person has a beautifully unique pattern. Each person is given a different sheet of music to sing, and sometimes small nudges in the direction of our own authenticity is all we need to hear our own bird sing.
I studied astrology until it was undeniable that I was still obsessed with plants. Now on to the next challenge of marrying heaven and earth and exploring how the two are connected. We explore the wholistic systems of astrology, emotions, spiritual growth, plants, beauty, good soil and healthy and even tasty food. A lifetime of observation and study, coming together as new offerings.
